When they register for either of these races, runners will have the opportunity to make a donation to the Foundation. Moreover, the 10K race at each event will be dedicated to raising awareness about the impact of the Foundation.
“We are thrilled to provide our community with the opportunity to run for a cause that is near and dear to our hearts,” said Éric Fleury, organizer and director of events for La série des Courses Thématiques.
Currently, nine out of 10 Canadians over the age of 20 have at least one risk factor for heart disease. That’s why the Montreal Heart Institute is dedicated to saving more lives by making a real difference in prevention and research.
“Partnerships like this one, and the invaluable support of vital partners such as Sun Life, are the key to raising awareness and to helping us fulfill our ambition of reducing the rate of mortality associated with heart disease by 30% in the next 10 years,” said Alain Gignac, CEO of the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation.
Thanks to this new association between La série des Courses Thématiques and the Foundation, Sun Life is reaffirming its dedication to building healthy, sustainable communities. For instance, in 2018 Sun Life and the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation launched the Sun Life Diabetes Prevention Clinic, a one-of-a-kind multidisciplinary diabetes prevention program for prediabetics and type 2 diabetics. Since it opened, 882 patients have enrolled and more than 20,000 workout sessions and 2,300 individual meetings have taken place.
