The 26th edition of the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI) Foundation’s Bal des Grands Cœurs raised $3,000,451 in support of the MHI’s priority projects in cardiovascular health.
Last night at Marché Bonsecours, more than 800 business leaders and philanthropists joined forces to support innovations in prevention, education, research, and cardiovascular care.
The event, hosted by Isabelle Racicot, was co-presided by Vincent Chiara, Groupe Mach; Delia Cristea, Power Sustainable; Éric Desrosiers, Novacap; Nicolas Hien, Dollarama and Dollarcity; and Stéphane Lefebvre, Solotech.
Nine out of 10 Canadians over the age of 20 have at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Faced with this staggering health care challenge, the MHI and its Foundation are working towards an ambitious goal: reduce the rate of mortality associated with heart disease by 30% in the next few years.
The funds raised at the Bal will help turn scientific research into tangible treatments and provide the MHI’s experts with the means to push the boundaries of cardiovascular medicine.
“This outpouring of support sends a powerful message: our community believes in the power of research and innovation to transform cardiovascular health. Every dollar raised enables the MHI’s teams to go further, quicker while allowing patients to benefit from the most promising scientific breakthroughs.”
- Karl Blackburn, President and CEO of the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation
“The Montreal Heart Institute has become an international hub for innovation. This mobilization is a testament to the trust our community places in our teams’ ability to create enduring change in the lives of patients.”
- Jacques Goulet, Chair of the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation’s Board of Directors
The Foundation would like to thank Cirque du Soleil and Power Corporation of Canada as well as all the partners, donors, and volunteers who contributed to the success of this event and who, year after year, help turn the Bal des Grands Cœurs into a driving force for progress in cardiovascular care.
Founded in 1977, the Foundation raises and administers funds to support the MHI’s innovative projects and fight cardiovascular diseases, the world’s number one cause of mortality. Thanks to the Foundation’s philanthropic events and contributions from donors, the MHI has become a global pioneer in cardiovascular health and the nation's leading cardiology research centre. Since it was founded, the Foundation has raised more than $450 million. These funds have made major breakthroughs possible and are used to support the MHI’s specialists, professionals, and researchers as they provide cutting-edge care to tens of thousands of Quebecers.
