A journey that changed everything

After losing both his mother and sister to heart disease, Louis Côté was unaware his own life was at risk. Warning signs eventually led him to the MHI where he finally received a life-saving heart transplant. 

But the story doesn’t end there. The MHI’s teams were able to identify the exact cause of his disease: the LMNA gene. Further genetic tests revealed that his two nieces also carried the gene and, as a result, they are able to receive pre-emptive care.
