The 6th edition of the Dr. Denis Roy Awards for Excellence in Cardiovascular Care was hosted by Nesrine Ragguem, President and CEO of the MHI, and Dr. Denis Roy. This year again, the ceremony highlighted the passion and diligence of the MHI’s health care teams.
“The Denis Roy Awards are a way to celebrate excellence, which is at the heart of the MHI. People who work at the MHI know that this is what drives all our professionals,” said Nesrine Ragguem.
Dr. Denis Roy is a cardiologist and electrophysiologist at the MHI who made the awards possible. The aim was to recognize the exemplary work of the nurses and health care professionals who stand out through their accomplishments, leadership, and team spirit.
Each individual award comes with a $5,000 prize. Moreover, a $15,000 prize was awarded for the first time to a team leading an innovative project. The funds will help them carry out an initiative that will have a direct impact on patients.
In total, 23 individual applications and 12 projects were submitted to the selection committee which was presided by Dr. Roy. The committee also comprised representatives of the MHI, the Foundation, and the philanthropic community including Pierre Michaud, Anie Brisebois, Denis Brouillette, Mélanie La Couture, and Alain Gignac.
The most memorable moment of the evening occurred when the 2025 winners assembled on stage to receive their award. Pascal Chabot, senior nursing assistant in the emergency department; Madjid Fouchane, nurse at the 3rd centre; and Sylvia Audet, pharmacist were all warmly applauded by their colleagues and loved ones.
A grant was then awarded to the team behind the “Redonner du sens aux soins” project. It is led by Élodie Petit, clinical and organizational ethicist, with support from Claudie Roussy, Sophie Baelen, Chantal Robert, Judith Brouillette, Ève Dubois, Katia Dyrda, Aliona Minacova, Ananda Lages Rodrigues, and Mélanie Charchalis. The “Redonner du sens aux soins” project aims to enhance the engagement of teams and improve the quality of care at the MHI.
With the Foundation’s support, the Awards for Excellence will continue to be bestowed for many years to come. This is due to the generosity of donors and the invaluable dedication of people like Pierre Michaud, a philanthropist who has sat on the selection committee since the awards were created.
“Employees at the MHI see their work as a calling. They saved my life and now I hold the MHI in my heart,” he said.
The event ended on a high note of pride and unity during a cocktail reception at the Espace Martial-G.-Bourassa.
The awards are more than a reward. They are a celebration of the passion, diligence, and devotion that drive every member of the MHI.
Congratulations to all the winners and their teams!
